Historical note

Peter Buhler was born on 10 January 1914 in Saskatchewan to Johan A. and Elisabeth (Braun) Buhler. He married Susanna Quiring (1915-1978) in 1935. In 1939 his parents and family moved to the Mayfeld area which is situated on the west side of the highway that runs between Austin and Gladstone, Manitoba due to the drought in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan forced them to look for better opportunities. Peter and Susanna soon followed. Peter Buhler was elected as a deacon in the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Church in 1952 and ordained as a minister on November 18, 1962. He served the Mayfeld Evangelical Mennonite Mission Church until they moved to St. Laurent, a community 90 kms. Northwest of Winnipeg on the shores of Lake Manitoba. In 1976 the Buhlers left to serve the Kitchener EMMC church for two years. Shortly after they returned to St. Laurent in 1978, Susanna was killed in a car accident. Peter Buhler remarried that same year and continued to serve until his retirement in 1982. (As of December 2000 he is living in the MacGregor Hospital.)
